Sustainability & Community Impact

The majesty of Indonesia’s natural landscapes is the very essence of our service. From the vibrant coral reefs of the Gili Islands to the lush volcanic slopes of Mount Rinjani, we are privileged to witness this beauty daily. This privilege comes with a profound responsibility to protect it. At Bali Heli Charter, we are deeply committed to a model of ‘Responsible Aviation,’ where luxury experiences and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand. Our sustainability strategy is focused on three key areas: minimizing our environmental footprint, empowering local communities, and actively supporting conservation.

Environmental Commitments

We acknowledge that aviation has an environmental impact. We are proactive in our efforts to mitigate it through technology, strategy, and partnerships.

1. Comprehensive Carbon Offsetting

We are committed to offsetting 100% of the carbon emissions from every flight. We have partnered with CarbonEthics, a respected Indonesian organization, to invest in verified carbon sequestration projects within the archipelago. Our contributions primarily support:

  • Mangrove Reforestation: Planting new mangrove forests in areas like North Kalimantan and the Thousand Islands, which are incredibly effective at capturing carbon and protecting coastlines.
  • Seagrass Restoration: Funding projects to restore vital seagrass beds around the Nusa Islands, which act as critical carbon sinks and marine habitats.

Our clients can fly with the confidence that the environmental impact of their journey is being actively neutralized through these vital local projects.

2. Modern, Efficient Fleet

We invest in a modern fleet of helicopters, such as the Airbus H130, which are specifically chosen for their superior fuel efficiency and lower noise footprint compared to older models. This reduces both emissions and noise pollution, minimizing our disturbance to wildlife and local communities.

3. Operational Efficiency & Waste Reduction

Our operations team, in coordination with AirNav Indonesia, meticulously plans flight paths to be as direct and efficient as possible, reducing flight time and fuel consumption. Furthermore, we have a strict no single-use plastic policy. All in-flight amenities, from water bottles to catering containers, are reusable or made from sustainable, biodegradable materials.

Community Empowerment & Social Responsibility

Our business is intrinsically linked to the people and culture of Indonesia. We are dedicated to ensuring our presence is a positive force for local communities.

1. Local Employment and Development

We are proud that over 90% of our team—including our highly skilled pilots, engineers, and management—are Indonesian nationals. We invest in continuous training and professional development, building a world-class aviation team within the country and creating high-value local employment opportunities.

2. Supporting Local Economies

We actively seek to partner with local suppliers. The refreshments served on our flights are sourced from Balinese producers, and the amenities provided to our clients are often handcrafted by artisans from villages like Celuk and Tenganan. This approach ensures that the economic benefits of our luxury services are distributed within the local community.

3. Community Support Initiatives

We dedicate a portion of our revenue and resources to support community projects. We are a proud supporter of the Bali Children Foundation, which provides educational pathways for children in disadvantaged communities. We also provide our aircraft on a standby basis for emergency medical evacuations from remote islands, working with local clinics to provide a critical lifeline when needed.

Active Conservation Partnerships

We leverage our unique aerial capabilities to actively contribute to conservation efforts. By partnering with leading environmental organizations, we provide essential logistical support that would otherwise be difficult or impossible. Our current partnerships, detailed on our Partners page, include providing aerial survey flights for WWF Indonesia to monitor marine mammal populations and assisting The Nature Conservancy with remote sensing of forest health. This is our commitment to ensuring the stunning landscapes you see on your scenic flight are preserved for generations to come.
